Sacramento Family Photographer | Marianna + Family in El Dorado Hills

I had the pleasure of meeting Marianna and her family through one of my prior families (one I’ve photographed often!) and it is always humbling to be referred to loved ones. I absolutely love meeting new families, and these children were a joy in front of my camera. They have so much life and the biggest, sweetest smiles. We met in El Dorado Hills for their family photography session. The Sacramento area is full of beautiful locations for family sessions, and their neighborhood community park did not disappoint!

I love to show connection when photographing families.

While I do take more traditional poses, my photographer soul enjoys the perfectly-imperfect candid moments. The natural, organic connection between family members is all I need and I can fill a gallery with these images. Even if no one is looking at my camera you can still feel their connection. This is what matters in the end. You know what you look like, let me show you how your love makes you feel. A mother’s life revolves around caring for young children, but I want my sessions to focus a little on this amazing human who is the cornerstone of her family. Mothers make a family. I love showing the love between a mother and her husband. It is beautiful to capture the love between a mother and her children.

Thank you Marianna for trusting me with your family’s memories! I hope to see you all again soon!

Sacramento Family Photography | Cristin + crew at their new Novato home

When Cristin and Matt moved to Novato she called me for an in-home session. She decided to do their yearly photo session in the midst of the chaos of moving and construction. Family photography in home, in the middle of real life? Yes please! (Side note: her house is styled to perfection. I wouldn’t expect anything less from this powerhouse of a woman!) Their new home was the perfect backdrop for their annual photos and I love this session so much! So you have moving boxes all over your house and living room? That’s totally fine. This session has character, much like my friend, Cristin. I admire her and her spirit and style. Moving boxes help tell their story.

I have no idea how I missed blogging this family. Our paths crossed years ago and I am so thankful! Cristin is pretty much the coolest girl in school. She is an amazing photographer (check her out here!) and I have had the absolute pleasure of photographing her family for a handful of years. I’ve met her before kids, seen her pregnant with two beautiful daughters, photographed a newborn session, and now a family session for her family of four. I worried when they considered moving out of state. They bought a house in the Bay and she is stuck with me forever! I love their spirit, their family vibe, everything about this crew is fun and fabulous. Her girls are a crack-up and make me happy.

Here is hopefully years and years of friendship and photography!

Sacramento Family Photographer | The Norman Family in Seattle

A while back I wrote about my experience teaching at a photography conference in Seattle for Clickin Moms. As part of the conference I taught two classes on capturing people outdoors, showing joy in couple’s photography, and indoors capturing sessions in low light using the light you’ve got! I had the extreme pleasure of seeing some old friends again…a bride and groom from years ago! Seth and Marcela agreed to meet with me and brought along their little one year old son, who I haven’t seen since his newborn session last year. I was so honored they took time out of their busy schedules to model for my class and hang out while I talked and talked about light and shadows. Thank you so much for helping me out!!

Here are some of the images I took while sitting on the hotel conference room floor with this fun family. You never need a beautiful backdrop or fancy home to get meaningful and emotive imagery, it is all about connection and light.

One behind the scenes, towards the end of the class little E fell asleep 🙂 the ladies in my class went crazy for this sweet boy and couldn’t help getting some shots of him in his mama’s arms!
