Sacramento Family Photography | Tara + Family in Granite Bay

I absolutely love family photography. There are so many sweet moments when families are together. It makes me very happy to photography children with their grandparents. I often get questions about extended family being present at a session, if it’s ok, if I will get a few images for them. The answer is always yes. I enjoy grandparents at newborn sessions, regular family sessions, maternity, anytime! Life is short and you never know how long you’ll have with your loved ones. If you want to include extended family in your photos – DO it! You will never regret having these memories. If you keep the session laid back, and focus more on the natural interactions (even in a portrait setting) you will have images to cherish for a lifetime.

Tara found me online and sent me a lovely e-mail about a family session at her parent’s home in Granite Bay. She and her girls were traveling from Canada for a visit and wanted to document the stay with some updated photographs. Her daughters were darling. I have to admit, I was immediately a fan of their spirit and gorgeous dark hair. The girls sang and danced, since they were with their grandparents they were especially affectionate. Grandma and grandpa fawned over them, completely enjoying the time they have with the girls. Living so far away must be challenging, however I could tell they made great efforts to see and get to know their grandchildren.

The light inside was beautiful and soft. Their home was perfect for photos, with large windows lining the walls. Once we moved outside the girls were able to properly play and run and dance. Sometimes a change of scenery is all a little one needs to get happy for photos.

Sacramento Family Photography | Julienne + Family

I have been falling in love with family photography. Hard. I met Julienne and her family a couple months ago for a lovely sunset session here in Sacramento. She found me through photography and she is a wonderful family photographer in this area. Her three kids and husband were amazing, totally easy going, and a great crew. We wandered around the beautiful Effie Yeaw and played on the trails. Some deer wandered by. It was perfect.

The sunset light glowed golden, and I took special time to capture Julienne with each of her children. As a photographer mother, I find myself often lacking from our family’s memories. I am always the one behind the camera. It is my mission, nay my purpose, to capture mama with her babies in natural moments. Of course, the gorgeous light doesn’t hurt. I want to thank Julienne and her husband for being so warm, natural, and going along with the easy chaos of a session with young children. It is never my goal to capture perfection, only to capture real life as best I can in a portrait setting. The little smiles from the kids and playful hugs are more my style. It is nice to get some of those “smiling at the camera” shots, but my heart forever lies in the in-betweens.

These kids stole my heart. Based on the way they all get along I feel like their house is a ton of fun most days. The littlest is the house’s princess. She is the boss lady and everyone adores her. The way the older two sweetly play with their sister is precious. Thank you to Julienne and her beautiful, spirited family! Your trust in these photos was everything. I wish your family an amazing and love-filled holiday season!

Sacramento Family Photographer | Lindsay + David at Sunrise

It was a brisk, dark morning when I met Lindsay and her family at sunrise on top of the world. When we arrived the sun was still tucked below the hills. Like the sun, we were still sleepy and we wandered about stopping to take photos by the gorgeous trees in the area. This beautiful mama is one of my brides from a few years ago. She is gorgeous inside and out. Lindsay is the sweetest. She e-mailed me a few months ago asking about a family session. After chatting about times and locations we decided on a sunrise session. Little girl is one and I feel like most babes are happiest earlier in the day.

Once the sun skimmed the tops of the hills the most beautiful golden light burst through the dusky morning. We laughed and smiled at how lucky we were to catch this weather the day of our session. The whole family was giddy as we played and laughed and took some amazing photos. The light, seriously folks. The light. It is always about the light. And happiness. It is about light and happiness 😉 Even if a location is pretty it is more important to have everyone content! When your littles are happy your family session is going to be so easy. Go natural with your hair. Lindsay opted for long loose waves and natural make-up. When you’re feeling effortless your images will have that fun, carefree, effortless feel.

Maybe we start your family session at home. Start with some coffee and snuggles and then we move outside. I can turn this session into a personalized, family centric photo session complete with all of your most cherished people in your most cherished locations. Family photography can be both beautiful and easy.
