Sacramento Davis Family Photographer | Sophia + Family in the Woods

I had the absolute pleasure of meeting Sophia a couple of years ago at her maternity and newborn sessions.

Relationships Rock!

Happiness for me is connecting with the same families year after year. Relationships rock. It means so much when I get to see babies grow up. What I do as a photographer is so personal and it matters to me to get to know my families and seeing them on repeat is such an honor.

I am actually interested in learning about your extended families, how you feel about raising your children, what you’ve been up to over the past year. Make me jealous with all of your cool trips. Talk to me about potty training and bedtime routines and finding time for date nights. I love it all.

Sophia and her family have had a busy few years, raising their adorable daughter, Nikki, and spending time traveling and working in San Francisco. Their little girl is a spit-fire. She has so much personality and energy and I loved watching her explore!

Letting kids be kids at your family session

When I assist in choosing a location for a family session I really focus on finding a spot that works perfectly for the ages of your children. Nikki needed room to run and play, but also a place that is semi-confined and safe. Letting children be free to play is key in keeping them happy. I can capture so much more about them as little people when they have some independence.

Since I knew how old Nikki was, and after chatting with Sophia about possible locations, this spot won me over. I had a day of family sessions at this gorgeous spot and knew it would be perfect for a toddler. I appreciate getting to see this awesome family again and hope they have a fantastic year!

Sacramento Family Photographer | Topher + Oscar

This family. It started out as a mini-session and ended up an hour long walk along the river, chatting, chasing their adorable son, and getting to know each other. I can’t even describe how much fun it was photographing this crew. They adopted little R and he is their whole world. The way this boy lights up when he’s around his parents is the absolute best.

We met near the river, close to their home. They like to walk here in the evenings and spend time enjoying Sacramento. I love when my families choose a spot that has some sentimental value. It makes the photo session easier and the images mean more. Little R knows this area and feels comfortable there, so it was easy to capture his real personality. Children are creatures of habit. If I can’t come into their home for photos I enjoy taking them to a spot they feel 100% comfortable. This means anywhere outside for most little ones. They need to be able to explore and run and play while we take photos. Hands down, my favorite images are those showing real emotion and that only happens when I can get a child to open up and be themselves.

This boy likes to run. Fast. We played and laughed and I captured some really awesome images of him, full belly laughing. His sweet face and spirited personality were awesome, and reminded me of my own kids. I can’t even imagine how much fun every day is in their home. I am so happy for this family. Their adoption, beautiful life, and son are everything. I follow them on Instagram and enjoy watching this child grow up. I hope they have a wonderful year and I look forward to “seeing” them online and watching their family adventures!

Folsom Family Photography | Amy + Family in Sacramento

I met Amy and her family on a foggy, gorgeously cool fall day. We were introduced on an online photography forum. I always get nervous when I photograph someone who also photographs families. Amy and her family were absolutely amazing. She has an incredible love for her children. It was a very peaceful, beautifully candid session, with the quietness of the fog and the kids playing. The children explored and roamed around the trails. We saw deer and squirrels. The fog made the morning quiet.

This family wanted holiday photos for their card. I loved their easy going nature with each other. It makes everything flow so smoothly when parents can fully relax and let go, allowing their children to be themselves. I captured the sweetest moments between siblings. Their oldest daughter has such a special connection with the baby of the family, and she gives sweet hugs and love. It was awesome to capture that for Amy.

We ran and talked and laughed and generally enjoyed the morning. The foggy air poofed our hair and really made some magic in the photos. I loved everything about this family and wish them the very best in their new year together!
