Sacramento Newborn Baby Photographer | Edward

Thank you to Victoria and Dustin for having me photograph your growing family. Your baby boy is precious and you both are naturals. I cannot wait to see you all again!

I met Victoria and Dustin at their maternity session. When their little boy arrived I met them at their house, because in home is always better. When we are in a comfortable space everyone is happy. This little boy was sleepy and loved being held. We spent some time outside, in the garden, where Dustin is working on growing a garden for his family. He told me all about how he can’t wait for Edward to join him there soon.

Maternity and Newborn Photography

Becky and Max have called me for maternity and newborn photos for both of their gorgeous children. I met Becky through one of my sisters, and she has been a favorite of mine to photograph over the years. Becky has a lightness in her spirit. She laughs so much. It is so good for the soul to be around folks like her. Max is hilarious. Like, really, really funny. His sharp wit and love for his wife make him a really awesome guy. After they had their first son they really settled into parenthood. Their home is forever full of toys, warmth, and Becky’s growing plant collection.

Having the same photographer shoot your maternity and newborn session is part of the fun. I get a chance to really bond with you over your belly and even more over your baby. We talk about motherhood and how hard times can be. We celebrate the successes of breastfeeding, commiserate over bottle-fed babies that refuse to take a bottle, and cry over how beautifully stressful and simple and complicated and chaotic life is with a newborn.

This family is such a good example of how much my heart can grow. Every session we have together is another opportunity for us to connect. At the end of the day it is really about connection and family. Photographing families as they start their journeys together, be it marriage or maternity, reminds me how lucky I am to be here on this earth. These sessions remind me of how lucky I am to do what I do.

Congrats to this family on their new addition (a perfect baby girl) and their growing family! I wish you all the best in your new family of four! Thank you so much for all of the sessions, you know I love watching these babies grow up!

Are maternity photographs important?

I did maternity photographs with both my boys. There is nothing more incredible than growing a life inside your body. For reals. It is weird and alien like and kind of scary when you stop to think about the grand exit, but it is really cool when it’s happening. I didn’t really enjoy being pregnant. Honestly, it drained the life out of me and I was very jealous of the glowing mamas out there. What I do love is looking back with rose colored glasses. My maternity photos really do help me with that. I feel more connected to my pregnancies now, years later, than I did when it was happening.

The hazy yet fond recollections of my children in their early stages are brought into clear focus when I flip through my maternity photographs.

So yes, maternity photos are important if you believe you will miss this stage. And for those of you who feel like you won’t ever miss being pregnant, they are even more important.

Trust is built through connection and relationship. I love when I have the opportunity to photograph a pregnant mama and then meet the family again for their newborn photos. When we have a chance to run around and get some beautiful images of you and your partner before the baby comes along (especially when it is your first baby!), then connect again with your baby in your arms, it makes the sessions run so smoothly. Plus I do always love seeing my families again. I really, really, really love seeing you all again. We share our birth stories, talk about how hard it is to have a newborn baby, chat about the horrors of learning to breast feed, and snuggle your sweet smelling baby.

I would love to photograph your journey from pregnancy to baby!
