Sacramento Family Photographer | Lindsay + David at Sunrise

It was a brisk, dark morning when I met Lindsay and her family at sunrise on top of the world. When we arrived the sun was still tucked below the hills. Like the sun, we were still sleepy and we wandered about stopping to take photos by the gorgeous trees in the area. This beautiful mama is one of my brides from a few years ago. She is gorgeous inside and out. Lindsay is the sweetest. She e-mailed me a few months ago asking about a family session. After chatting about times and locations we decided on a sunrise session. Little girl is one and I feel like most babes are happiest earlier in the day.

Once the sun skimmed the tops of the hills the most beautiful golden light burst through the dusky morning. We laughed and smiled at how lucky we were to catch this weather the day of our session. The whole family was giddy as we played and laughed and took some amazing photos. The light, seriously folks. The light. It is always about the light. And happiness. It is about light and happiness 😉 Even if a location is pretty it is more important to have everyone content! When your littles are happy your family session is going to be so easy. Go natural with your hair. Lindsay opted for long loose waves and natural make-up. When you’re feeling effortless your images will have that fun, carefree, effortless feel.

Maybe we start your family session at home. Start with some coffee and snuggles and then we move outside. I can turn this session into a personalized, family centric photo session complete with all of your most cherished people in your most cherished locations. Family photography can be both beautiful and easy.

Sacramento Newborn Photography | Baby T

I had the best time with this little boy and his parents. Days seem to move in slow motion when there is a newborn in your home. Looking back on my own newborn experiences is a blur of sleeplessness and diaper changes and feeling overwhelmed. Having a baby is a joy filled experience, but it is also hard and isolating and confusing, especially when you’re navigating being a new parent and learning your new baby’s likes and dislikes.

Babies change a family. They bring fresh life into your home. The soft cries and sweet little coos can melt your heart. Babies also bring growth. These parents are handling all of the changes with such grace and strength. Mama was calm, serene, and absolutely in love with her son. Dad beamed at his boy, so proud and excited about their future.

When I walk into a home for the first time and see a sleeping baby wrapped up in mama’s arms I feel a sense of peace. Every second of a newborn session is memorable. From conversation about delivery, the challenges of breastfeeding, the crazy overwhelming emotions, the struggles, the joy, it means so much to me to be there. There is an immediate bond created between mothers. We know what it’s like to be in this place and every newborn session takes me right back to my own experiences with my boys. It is important to document these fleeting days when baby is so small. When they still fit in your hands. When you looked forward to breathing them in. The days might go by slowly but the years fly by and these photos will be treasured.

Lake Tahoe Family Photographer | Morgan + Family in Kings Beach

I met Morgan through one of my awesome couples (the always fabulous Maya and Dan). A friend of Maya and Dan are definitely a friend of mine! Morgan and her family were spending a week in Lake Tahoe and wanted some family photos with their two little boys. We met in Kings Beach, near their cabin, for a morning session. Kids are always happiest earlier in the day and the empty beach is also a huge bonus!! We ran around in the sand, played, laughed, and enjoyed general silliness with the boys.

There is something really amazing about Lake Tahoe. The way people open up, feel free to relax, it has to be the blue skies and blue water. There is a laid back vibe to Tahoe that doesn’t exist anywhere else. Photography while on vacation definitely has huge perks…everyone has a sense of peace about them. I never regret making the drive into the mountains and welcome travel sessions to Tahoe. The sweeping highway and epic views of the Tahoe valley always give me so much joy. Morgan and her family had almost a week of sun and sand and family fun. They were ready for their session with the very best attitudes and casual, carefree love for each other. I cannot thank this beautiful family enough for welcoming me with smiles and hugs and going along with my session ideas!
