Overlanding the Eastern Sierras and Inyo Mountains | My Family

It has been 8 months since this epic trip in the Eastern Sierras, hitting up Alabama Hills, the steep and technical Swansea-Cerro Gordo Road, and the Salt Tram with amazing views of the Saline Valley. Being out in these quiet, vast expanses is where my heart is happiest. I love taking my kids out into areas most people are not lucky enough to access. These trips make me respect the earth and all she has to offer.

6 days, 5 trucks, 10 adults, 4 kids. We camped where we wanted along the trail, hiked, cooked, enjoyed the camp fires, and had a lot of laughs while chatting on our CB radios. I was Red Fox…or was it Grey Squirrel. Over. Out.

We have started making some swag, and this year I designed our stainless pint glasses. Black Rock 2016. Then it rained and we had to change plans, so Mammoth area was our new destination. Many thanks to our friend, Ian, for planning and organizing our route. We had a contest this year where everyone had to cook dinner once (and breakfast once – so awesome to take out your cookware one night and the following morning) and plan a meal with a paired cocktail. This year Jeff and Stu won (a close call when it came time to judge!) with delicious moscow mules paired with beef stroganoff. We did Budweiser in cans paired with chili dogs and apple pie liquor 😉 The winners won a custom designed “Black Rock 2016” flask perfect to commemorate our Mammoth Overland adventure haha

I love these trips and spending every night snuggled up with my kids and David in our rooftop Tepui tent, waking up with the sun, driving on dusty dirt roads, over mountain passes, and never seeing another soul on the trails. It was enjoyable beyond words and I cannot wait to get out again.

We are headed out next week on another overland trip with our boys and I decided it was a good time to get around to blogging some of the thousands of photos I took on this trip. If you make it to the end, thank you 😉
